Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla created history with the Axiom-4 mission

Axiom-4 mission live updates: Indian Air Force pilot Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla today created history when he became the second Indian after Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma and the first Indian to reach the International Space Station (ISS) on a commercial space mission.

The Axiom-4 mission carrying Shubhanshu Shukla and three other astronauts to the ISS was successfully launched on Wednesday.

Born and brought up in Lucknow, Shubhanshu Shukla completed his schooling from the Aliganj campus of City Montessori School, but the Kargil War of 1999 inspired him to serve the country. This incident affected him so much that he passed the NDA exam to serve his destiny.

He earned a BSc degree in Computer Science from NDA in 2005, followed by pilot training at the Indian Air Force Academy and was commissioned in the fighter stream in 2006. Later, he completed his B. Tech in Aerospace Engineering from Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.

Shukla was selected for India’s Gaganyaan mission in 2019, under which he was inducted into the astronaut training programme. She trained at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre in Russia, where she completed the course in 2021. He has also undergone mission-specific training at the Astronaut Training Facility in Bengaluru.
